installing new glow plugs

Well I ve never had the valve covers off so I don't know what I am in for, so please any advice would be appreciated........ I got my parts today from the Powerstroke shop 8 Motorcraft GP's , 4 under valve cover wire harnesses and 2 valve cover gaskets......... So here are my questions.........

1 Do I have all the parts that I need?

2 Does the valve cover gasket get a sealer?

3 Is this job easy, from the looks of the parts I would think it is easy?

4 How long do you think it should tke start to finsh?

5 While I have the valve covers off is there anything else that I should do while under there?

A big Thanks for any words of advice
Jack

1) If all you wanted to do is replace the glow plugs are you needed was the glow plugs...

2) you shouldn't have had to buy a new valve cover gasket... the are reuseable (unless you wanted new connectors) (which you can buy separatly)

3) Removing the glow plugs is fairly easy. What you want to do is get a 10mm deep well socket on a 1/4 drive. Break loose the gp and then remove the socket as you cannot keep it in there because it will hit the? (the rocker i believe). Anyhow, get yourself an old piece of vaccum hose and push it on top of the gp and twist it to remove the gp. Same thing goes for installation.

4) That I couldn't tell. I did mine when I put bigger injectors on. It shouldn't take that long to do. (2-3 hours maybe)

5) Check your valve cover connectors, they tend to melt of be burned out. Althought I don't think this a big problem it might be something to look at just in case you want to replace it.

btw.. glad you got the motorcraft gp's. The autolites are junk apperantly.

Good luck

Farm69,

Thanks, I did not know that the valve cover gaskets are reuseable, thats why I bought them I don't see how they seal since they are just hard plastic.......... What do you mean by valve cover conectors? ar'nt they a part of the gasket that in turn go to the wire harness?

Does the under valve cover harness conect to the injectors also?

The UVC harness also has the injector wiring in them too. I'm not certain but I think the female ends (the part on the valve cover gasket) are can't be removed from the gasket.

I wouldn't think you'd run into any problems with the female end but you can by the male ends separatly I believe.

With glow plugs problems its usually the gp or the relays.

Hope that makes things a little clearer.. I'm sure someone will be along who knows for sure.
