1998 f150 4x4 4.6l 140k auto tranny, several times over the last few months I have had odd electrical problems. First and usually the power windows quit working and then start again a few hours or days later. A few weeks ago the alarm would go off any time I unlocked the door with the key[no remote on this truck] and would stay on until I started the truck. This also went away by itself. Yesterday the windows wouldnt work again so I checked the fuses and wiggled the small relays/circuit breakers also in the fuse block and the windows worked again but I didnt change anything. This morning the interior lights dont work, the wipers quit, and the power windows wont move. I have read some posts about the gem module but I'm unsure of its location, what it looks like, and what kind of connection it has. Any and all help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, I had a tree come thru the windshield 2 years ago and had some problems with leakage and odd electrical problems but after a couple of return trips to the body shop they said it was resolved. Never noticed any dampness since then and it has been pretty dry weather lately...unless the heavy dew on windsheild in the a.m. is enough to seep down.
My 1997 f-250 4x4 door chime sometimes keep chiming my 4 high sometimes work 4 low does not I hear clicking right side of steering wheel possible gem prob? please help
The GEM modual has control of all the issues listed.
If it has corrosion inside, conduction can occur causing high resistance shunts that can inhibit signaling.
These modules have their own internal program per the truck's equippage so it needs to have the program intact when changed out to another unit.
There are at least 4 different models of Gem beside being programmed per the vehichle and equippage. They cannot be plugged up as interchangable.
Good luck.
