You have to take the front dash surround off. There are a couple screws that must be removed, then clips for the levers on the fan speed controls, take the turn ***** off for the radio, undo the two nuts holding the small black plastic platte on, then to two screws behind that platte, the take off the winshield wiper ****, light switch ****(you have to press a button behind the dash to take it out, and when the surround is off, you must put the light swith **** back on so the head lights don't drain the battery), and there should be a small bulb w/wiring attatched behind the surround, try and reach under to take it off(so you don't rip it off). Then you will have the surround out of the way, then start undoing the bracket attatched to the radio, and don't forget to unplug the antenna.
Sounds a lot harder than it is. This is all from off the top of my head, from all the different trucks I've done this to, countless times.
The light switch and wiper controls are to the left of the steering wheel, not near the radio. So I don't understand what they have to do with removal.
I know where they are located....
As I said, they are holding the SURROUND from coming OFF. So in order to even get to the radio you have to remove the light switch and wiper **** to take the surround off so you can gain access to the radio.
I tried to finesse the radio out of my '79 F150 with factory A/C and the only way it would come out was to break the front off the radio, which didn't matter since the radio didn't work anyway. It was an aftermarket radio, but appeared to be no larger than a factory unit... maybe just a bit smaller if anything.
I always took the radio out the front. Just had to undo the brackets to make room... There is so much stuff behind the dash, I didn't even try going through the back.
