horns...

well, i found the power wire for my horns today tucked under the battery tray. now, i got a new set that works mounted up, i hook the power wire to the horns and when i hit the buttons on the wheel it gives this week little sickly beep.... now, like i said, the horns work when i bench test them, and give direct power from the battery. also, that power wire is giving the full voltage to the horns. when i tested it with the truck running and off it puts out the same voltage from that wire as the battery has... o,... and the buttons work, same sick little beep as when i bypass the buttons inside the wheel with a jumper on the 2 terminals.

all i can think of now is that its getting power, the relay works, the switches work, what else is there?

78 and 79's have weak horns.

To get a better sounding horn either buy some Lincoln,Large Old Buick,Cadillac,MErcury Horns

or

install the horn relay system.

You see ,unless you have a truck with speed control.....no relay was installed.

What else would you like to know ?

Oh ya,

Here is a photo of a Cruise wiring harness.

Note the horn relay plug .

I have a 78 ... same problem from day one.

I eventually found a twin set of horns off an old Buick Electra a installed them.

Then I installed cruise control and the horns are so loud now that train engineers plug their ears

Sounds like you need a relay, but did you check the ground too?
