tranny guessing...

looking at a local 1995 F150 with 4.9/auto...ok...not seen it yet but Im going to... they say it has a bad tranny and dont know which it is. Can I assume that if it has overdrive its an E40D and if not a C6?

It's probably E4OD because I think they stopped using the AOD by that year...could very well be wrong though.

It's not a C6 though, that's for sure.

EDIT: It could be either 4R70W or E4OD.

The c6 did not stop getting used in 79... I'm not sure where you got that fact...

Quoted from an approved article under Articles/Specs on this site. "Ford Transmission Spotter's Guide" by Bob Ferguson. He says he's not sure all the sources were correct but that's what's available to users. Didn't sound right to me, but it's the best I could come up with.

I know that wikipedia is hardly a reliable source, but it's generally pretty good.

C6 --> 1966–1996

You'll search a life time to find a truck from this era with a factory c6, but they're out there. I believe they were only offered as a option in fleet purchased vehicles, to save on cost.

well, since this one sounds like it may have well been a fleet-order truck, I'm back to my original question. IF it doesn't have an overdrive over ride switch, what tranny is it probably going to be?

AND

what years/cars/trucks can I get a replacement out of?
