Coolant problem. Maybe.
Noob here, but have already learned a lot already just by reaqding the posts.
I just purchased a 1990 Club Wagon (E350 I think) van w/ a 300 I6 (only $1000).
When I briefly researched the van before buying, I thought it was only available w/ a V8, so when I went to buy it I only looked for signs of problems not ID things. Didn't even know it was an I6 until I was replacing the thermostat. Then, further research led me here.
So far, I am not displeased the discovery, the van runs well, and since it is intended as a work van that doubles as my boat puller, the I6 might be a good thing.
So...Here are my questions.
How do I identify what transmission, gears, blah blah, that I have, easily? Can I get that info from the VIN online somewhere?
My heater core as been disconnected (probably leaks) and one hose is doubled back and kinked. Can this cause my cold engine problem? The thermostat appeared functional, or at least closed.
I am very capable mechanically, but I am not a "car guy". I have done a lot of DIY stuff but I have never rebuilt a motor or changed a cam, and don't want to.
I just want to know the best things I can do to make this motor run for a long time. Hell, I might just resell the van w/ better advertising now that I know how popular these motor are ;-).
Thanks for any input.
If it's too low you will only confuse the motor and it will run in warmup mode causing extra fuel and carbon too build up!! It needs to get up to temp quick and change modes to run at it's best!! That motor should have all the torque you need look up the ratings on that motor then compare to a 302!!
