Underdrive pulleys

I did a search and saw a lot of people recommending UP but i didnt see any brands mentioned.

What brand are you running and are you happy with them? How much did they cost? Are you running an alternator underdrive too and if so, do you have a higher output alt?

Thanks everyone.

I've got one pulley on my truck...bought it used it's only the crank pulley and I beleive it's BBK...if you surf E-bay I saw some the other day that wer like 50 bucks for the crank.waterpump, and alt pulleys flat black so they look stock. They do do a great deal of good on the motors.....I used my stock alt...what is that like 75 amps?lol......I think the battery in my truck is going dead though so I'd grab the full set.

I've never looked too deep into underdrive pulleys. Can someone explain what they are and how they supposedly help performance?

By turning accessories at a slower rate the strain on motor is less. They are fine for on road guys. I had set crank alt and fan on old truck and had no charging, cooling related problems even sitting in traffic down town Pittsburg in june with air on for 2 hrs. .

But at low rpms like off road they be a problem. There is a slight MPG increase . But as for a profomace add not much on mine. But any thing to add to MPG . Mine is a polished set from ebay . I got second hand and no marking could be found. Good luck

They now sell underdrive kits that allow you to still get power and the same alternator output.

Moore, that is the kit.....to compensate for the crank pulley being smaller...they make the alt pulley larger so you still get the same charging capabilities.

I think someone makes em for windsors but you could probably use the 302 set without difficulty....and they're a little more readily available...

your also forgetting another reason why most people get UDP. Not only are they reduced in size but their generally is a HUGE weight difference. Which makes it noticable. Or well on my car it made a huge different on the low end.
