gathering parts for an efi conversion. Noticed on ebay, there seems to be 2 types of intakes, 1 with the ports in a straight line and 1 with them stagered (speaking of the ports between the upper and lower intake). Whats the difference between these and which one is better?
There are too many manifolds for these engines. Generally the oval port inline manifold is a stock car manifold. Round staggerd tube type probably GT40. Rectangular staggerd, holley or trickflow. Rectangular straight, holley or stock truck. Just a few examples. Many aftermarket manufacturers used many different castings over the years. If its going on a truck, the stock truck manifold should be good (longer runners for better torque). Car manifolds are usually designed for upper rpm horsepower (shorter more open runners) Edelbrock makes a truck manifold but ive heard its not really worth the money. A few have installed mustang intakes and have been dissapointed by the loss of torque on their trucks.
Oh, and the staggerd design is to help flow. If you look down the runners on a stock 5.0 mustang lower, a couple of the ports do a nasty dog leg. Staggering the port gives them a straighter shot. Gen 1 Lightnings used the GT40 intake but they also had a 351. Hey anybody try the new BBK SSI intake on a truck?
