Hi, quick question about electrical: My 1970 F100 Custom came with the wires all crossed up. Most everything works, but my turn-signals turn on my emergency flashers. It seems like this should be easy enough to fix, but I'm having trouble figuring out where the problem is. Anyone run into this before?
No but i had a 69 that the brake/flasher wires all went bad and didnt have lights for a wile, i tried everything i could to fix it, finaly i too it to an electrical shop and within 2 days i had it back working all perfict. The money was well worth not having the frustration. Just my 2 cents.
When you say all of the wires were crossed up what are you referring to, all of the steering column harness to under-dash harness wiring? ALL of the wires in both of those connections are color coded. There should be exact matches on both sides of the connectors for most of the wires. If some are mixed up (spliced) they might have been incorrectly matched together.
Also, check to see if you have BOTH flasher units under the dash. I know the auto makers have back-ups built into some of the wiring in vehicles, like, if a brake light filament breaks (and you aren't using your headlights) the parking light will become a backup and work with the brakes when you apply them.
One of my flashers in my 1968 (turn signals) is behind the instrument panel and the one for the emergency flashers is near the radio.
Are the plugs / connectors still on the steering column harness and the under-dash harness and are they plugged into each other or are all of the wires spliced together under the dash for the column?
Your emergency flashers "override" your turn signals. Make sure the emergency flasher switch isn't falling apart causing the connections to become joined or seperated in some way.
