I have a 2004, F-350 SD V-10 cc, lb with an auto transmission. The vehicle has 125,000 miles and I do not know the service history. My question is do I replace the trans. oil or continue to drive it as is? The oil does not appear brown or stinky.
Yes, change it. It is better to know exactly what is going on in your truck rather than guessing. Doing an oil analysis wouldn't be a bad idea either. Just my .02
I have heard against using AMSOIL ATF for the Superduty Transmissions. I have an Early 99 Super Duty with the 7.3L. I like AMSOIL, but I have heard that they cause this transmission to slip excessively. Any insight would be appreciated. This subject was touched briefly in another post.
I concur, might as well change out all of the fluids and have a base line for future maintenance.
I am using Royal Purple ATF and with my tune and factory tech valve body, no slipping. In fact with the valve body and RP, I am chirping second rather frequently.
I have removed the tranny cooler line and let the tranny pump out it's own fluid while having a friend add fresh fluid. We kept it running until the fluid coming out cleared up and then shut it down and filled it full. This was on a 1500 suby and it worked well, don't see why it wouldn't work with the ford tranny. Someone correct me if they think it's a bad idea.

I saw a procedure for this, I think it was on Motorcrafts site. That is how I did it. Mine called for 17.5 quarts but I kept it flushing until I had put in 20 qrts to be sure.
The only approved transmission fluid for the 5R110 torqshift is Mercon SP. Ford hasn't released the license for manufacture to anyone so it's only available from certain outlets. The pan gasket is reusable and there is an auxillary "toilet paper roll" filter on the right front corner of the truck. Be sure to change that also.
