Transfer case fluid change

Getting ready to change the fluid in my transfer case (should have done a logn, long time ago). it calls for mercon and I'm planning on using Mobile 1 synthetic. Is draining and refilling good enough, or should I drain refill, and repeat once?

wow, I have some sort of dark oil in mine. Its sure not mercon. More like 75-90.

Would anybody here advise against using AMSOIL ATF in the T-Case?

I would recommend and I also used

XT-2-QDX, Dextron mercon III Or Mercon V which is a replacement for III.

This should be in the owners manual. If you chose to add something different you might make sure it meets the spec.

Unless you're talking about your '77 highboy ... completely different "case" (pun intended).

To the OP: Drain and refill.

if it is dirty as heck, or the wrong stuff, i would check and see if there is something that will break down the other stuff, and run it for a little, drain, and re-fill with the right stuff..... that is just what i would do if it was mine, I dont like to take many chances with my trucks
