Engine Cleaning

Just replaced the o rings on my hpop. Oil in the valley and around the hpop area. What would be the safetest way to clean the oil without causing any damage to any electrical components or connectors. Any advise would be helpful.

Once you've "greened" it like Ron said, you can top everything off with Dupont's Teflon Tire Shine (which is not as "dirt attracting" as Armorall). I've done this on my truck recently, and placed a lot of pics in my gallery. The Tire Shine is available at Walmart and some of the auto part chain stores.

is simple green just a spray on? cover a few things, spray on, rins off with garden hose right? or is there any scrubbing required before washing off?

No scrubbing. Spray on, wait 5-10 minutes, bad spots may need a second dose, rinse off. Just don't use high pressure rinse... not necessary.

engine cleaning

thanks Pete I want to get my engine as clean as yours looks good. What about all the rest of the connectors .I know there is some around the fuel filter housing. Are all the electrical connectors water proof? Can hose down the after cooler hoses close to the turbo too? Just wanted to get all the precautions before I get down dirty.

not saying it will not happen.. but you should be ok if you cover the things covered above..I use a grease from Napa that is made for electrical connections and apply to all my connections under the hood.. I power wash my bay with no problems at all..been doing it for years..the last thing you want is steam..steam works its way into very small cracks and holes a lot easer then water can...then you will have problems..i also use a cleaning spray from napa for the electrical conection and clean all my electrical plugs...

by the way...welcome to FTE

Thanks for the kind words, Homesteader, and please accept my apologies for not having welcomed you like Ron did. I sometimes get in a hurry and don't notice the post count and end up missing the fact that a poster is a newcomer.
Anyway... WELCOME!!!

Now... when I cleaned my engine, I did put a little plastic baggie over the two solenoids behind the filter housing, and I also covered the oil fill cap and the power steering fluid cap. Aside from that, almost everything was game. I sprayed SG on everything... rinsed it off, and did a reapplication in some really dirty areas. The intercooler pipes and boots as well!

One thing to watch out for that I did not notice until after I had finished and shined the engine bay, and that is the lower portion of the boots on the bottom of the spider. They did not get a good cleaning because they are so far down and out of the way. Next cleaning... they're gonna shine too!
