Speaking of good ideas, some pregnant women have another reason to reconsider the wisdom of getting a tattoo on the small of their back, reports WSJ’s Rachel Zimmerman. These women and their doctors worry that when an epidural is administered through their tat during labor, the needle can pull some dyed skin and deposit “it into the nerve-rich region outside the spinal column,” where it might cause trouble. Krzysztof Kuczkowski, chief of obstetric anesthesia at the University of California San Diego Medical Center, notes a tatted-up patient experienced unusual burning, tenderness and swelling where an epidural catheter had been placed. Could the tattoo have been the culprit? “It’s possible there’s a release of small particles that could contain metals or toxic compounds,” he says. Even if the medical evidence on the tattoo risk remains in short supply, it’s another reason to think twice before getting permanently inked.
That's why I prefer the tats applied by decals. You can wash/wear them off. They are the only tats I allow any of my women to have. Them and the ones applied by felt tip marker. That's how I roll.
Tattoo inks are made from non toxic materials, people can have allergic reactions to certain pigments, but none are considered toxic. There is a LOT of city regulations run through the equiptment used in tattooing. It doesn't mean they know everything, but health services keep a pretty tight watch over what goes on.
Still, most women with a 'tramp stamp' probably shouldn't be breeding, at least most of those in California shouldn't... Let them just keep tramping on...

Imaginary girlfriends dont count.
Kidding, kidding, i couldnt resist. Just wanted to add to the mayhem of this particular thread.
That's pretty intresting, but like ihateminimumwage said, I'm pretty sure that there aren't any metals or toxic substances in tattoo ink. Otherwise the thing would never stop itching right from day one. At least thats my rather un-educated opinion. And BTW how would I pronounce this "Krzysztof Kuczkowski"??
