I know you guys must really think I am taking this over board, but I am partially serious, in terms of running the right system for the van. As of right now, it looks like theres one or two cats in the stock system for this 2000 Windstar with a 3.8Liter engine. Anyway, my brothers and I have discussed it further, and we think we are going to pool our money together to get the exhaust system done right. We want to have a custom exhaust shop run a 2 1/2 inch pipe from the cat back, that way theres more flow, and hopefully makes the exhaust way louder, and while we are in there replace the cat, or cats with high flow ones.. Heres my question tho, does anyone here know how many cats there actually is for sure. I know I see one in the y-pipe, so theres one, but is there any other built in ones that u know of? I think realistically the only one to replace is the one that I can visibly see, and I think its time for it to go, and now is a better time than ever to replace it seeing it has 166,000 miles on it, and its beginning to rattle at certain accelerations. Whats your take guys? Would 3 inch be to big all the way through for the system? Let us know thanks guys!

once a motor head always a motor head. Its really quite funny tho because when we drive in our work van for a 48 hour shift, its nice having a tone in the background. We like to race and mess with people, and see peoples reactions, its gr8!
A minivan is a vehicle equipped with an engine just like any other vehicle. If this guy wants to make it sound better more power to him. More power to the people who do stuff outside the box.

Thanks bearriver! Yah I am not looking to "stir" anything up here, but its just something that makes my day go a little easier, hearing a nice tone that is
just a heads up, with free flowing exhaust on a v-6 especially a 3.8 it isnt goint to sounds that good at all, but anyone who knows me i own many v8' and like that deep mean tone

Heck yeah, I'd do the same, probably makes those long hours a little more bearable .

Trust me 94' I know a loud 460 too, my truck is my breathing passion, so I think were both on the same page in the spectrum. But back to the van, the reason why I am evev bothering pimping it out is to get it 1/2 as close to the funnest of my rig, lol, but it sounds pretty good for a van, so were cool with it. Next thing will be a custom cold air intake. Anyone know if the 3.8 mustangs cold air intake can be fabricated to fit?

Well if they won't fit you could always just make your own!
ya fo shizzle. I just didnt know if the same fenderwell intake was the same size as it is on the mustangs. I want it to make that loud noise cold air intakes make. My brother had one on his old neon, and the thing was so loud, it made it sound really cool.
Look inside the airbox and intake tract for any resonators or restrictions. Removing them will make the intake quite a bit louder.
T-Bords and Mustangs have used the 3.8 for years. Might want to get on some websites and see what the popular mufflers are for those cars. I would go with a Thrush turbo muffler (cheap) for sound only or a Dynomax for both sound and power.
Hey I had a old Caravan that rotted the exoust off. I had a old Hush Thrush headder muffler in the shed, and adapted that to the converter. Ran the 2 1/2" outlet back, and out the side, and welded a 3" pipe to it as a outlet. Looked kinda cool, and sounded a LOT better. Not that loud, but heard a rumble. Hey you got to run a minivan, might as well have some fun!!!
I have a Windstar myself now, but the system is still good. If I remeber right it has 3 cats. two on the headpipes, into one rear one. If you look under that thing, it looks like the stock muffler is whats holding things back. . STRANGE looking for sure!!! you will also see a after muffler on the tailpipe I bet just fabbing a cat back up will realy uncork it, and pick the sound up a notch.
