another clutch question

So I've got an 87 ranger, with some clutch problems. The clutch would not engage at all. Today I was messing around with it with the engine running, taking out of reverse and putting back in, while pressing the clutch in. Well I accidently went to shift it without pressing the clutch and felt the gears grind a bit. So for a chance of fate, I pushed the clutch in, put it in reverse, and no go. Still did not move. This is where it gets kind of odd, with the transmission in nuetral, and my foot off the clutch, I can feel and hair the input gears in the tranny spinning, but if I push the clutch in maybe 1/2-1", they whir down to a stop, and if I take my foot off the pedal, they don't immediately go right back up to speed, but kind of spinup in a block of about 1.5 seconds. Its almost like the clutch pedal is not going out enough, or the master cylinder is out of adjustment. My mechanic friend is confident that there is air in the system, but I for the life of me can't find the bleeder screw.

If anyone can help, its an 87 Ranger XLT with 2.9V6, and 5 spd manual with over drive
