Keyless Entry

Can anyone tell me how to figure out if my truck came with keyless entry or not?

I was told that there was a box mounted above the trans hump, but under the dash. i don't know if this is true or not or if there was any other way to tell.

Wow, after reading that, it really wasn't much help, was it?

Call dealer with your VIN number and they should be able to tell you.

Lightbulb To the Rescue!!!!!

Simple, Put your key in the Ignition Cyl. turn the key from stop to run 8 times ending on the run position. (NOT start, Also make sure that your doors are unlocked) After doing this the locks should cycle up and down once. This has entered your Truck into program mode where you can add or reprogram new Key fabs (remotes) To Learn the further instructions vistis this:

http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...&menuIndex1=18

There you can view a copy of your owners manuel or ANY owners manuel, free of charge.Should Your Truck NOT enter the program mode it would indicate you do not have RKE (remote keyless entry). I Hoped this helped you, should you have and questions please feel free to contact me. Also, Give a good rep to me in the upper Right hand corner of this post, Have a Great Day.

Correct. You can also find the procedure to program an extra "chip" key but
must have 2 keys that will start the vehicle.

No chips in SD keys until the '08 model. OP has a 1999.

To the OP, another way to go is to call Ford and ask them to send you a build sheet for your vehicle. You will need the VIN, and their records need to show that you are the current owner. They mail you in a few days a nice letter telling you all the options originally built on the truck. Real nice to have in your records.

Interesting,, my 2000 has a chip and I had to go to the locksmith to have them read the computer to know how to program my second key. But then it is a Excursion Limited 4wd 7.3 Diesel so perhaps that's the difference

Yes, that is interesting. I'm not very familiar with the Exc. My '06 F250 has no chip and it does have the "Advanced Security" option, whatever that means. My '02 Escape has a chip, my '04 F150 had a chip, so I was very surprised when I learned that my very expensive Superduty did not. The experts here at FTE assured me that the SD never had that option. If your Exc has the chip, I suppose it's because of the intra-brand competition with the Expedition.

The SD PICK UP's were NOT offered the PATS security system until the 2008 Model Year.

WRONG! The 2003/2004 Harley SD and even the King Ranches use a Pats Key. I know, i have a Harley Pats key for my 03 SD and my father owned an 04 harley.

<O

As for the "Build Sheet" or as we call it HVBOM (Historical Vehicle Bill of Material) That is only for cars and trucks built after 6/01/02
<O

Arn't I just a wealth of knowlege?

PS: I didn't Mean to so sound like a dick. Just wanted to set your all straight.

Yes, I guess you are. It's always good when an actual owner contributes information. I knew there was a limit to the age to get an "HVBOM". I suppose that's a rolling 5 years??? Or not??? It's totally reasonable that they would put an age limit on it. All the more reason for purchasers of used vehicles to get it while they still can. I usually buy new, and always save that window sticker. I've even made the dealer print me a new one when the old one was messed up. My current truck was the first used vehicle for me in a long time.

Nah, that don't **** me off. What does **** me off is that Ford didn't put the PATS in any Superduty with the so-called "Advanced Security" option. Particularly now that we know the design existed and was used in the Exc and the Harley. I'm still not convinced on the King Ranch, unless you owned one. The KR is much more common than the HD, and no one has posted with direct knowledge.

Thanks for the info,
Bill

Yeah, the KR is a guess, and the HVBOM is NOT a Rolling 5 years. Its just when they started Keep Super Good records i guess. GM has been since 98 from what my buddys at chevy tell me. Also, I couldn't Ever agree with you more about ford NOT putting the PATS in the SD sooner.
