'99 E150 steering "clunking"
When I turn my steering wheel, I can feel a number
of distinct "clunks". It doesn't matter if I am moving
or not, it happens in both situations.
Any ideas? I searched the archives and found some
references to an "intermediate slip joint problem", but
not much else was said. I searched TSBs and there were
quite a few listed as "Steering clunks", but no explanation
to cause or fix.
I just want to arm myself with information prior to
going to the dealer to have it looked at.
Thanks, Mike
Do a search on 'Pitman Arm' and you'll find more info. Others have used a needle on the grease gun to lube under the rubber boot where the arm connects to the center link with good results I read. Good luck. (My dealer replaced mine under warranty with a comment something to the effect that it was another of FORD's better ideas!)
