carb adjustment

since i rebuilt my carb 2bbl on my 69 360 it does not hit full power when held wide open, but just above wide open is where it seems to hit full power. i have the carb set at 1 1/2 turns and everything adjusted to the specs listed with the rebuild kit. do i need to fool with the enrichment screws? if so do i need to ge richer or leaner? or do i need to adjust the linkage to where it hits full power?

carb adjustment

On the rod that controls the accelerator pump, there are multiple holes it can be placed in on the bar that turns the butterflies, make sure it is in the correct hole. This controls the amount of 'squirt' in relation to how far open the butterflies are. On the air-mix screws, mine liked to be between 2 1/2-3 1/2 turns out to run good. I always started at 2 full turns out then made adjustments.
I live at 7000 ft, so mine always had to be leaned out.

carb adjustment

I know the specs call for starting at 1 1/2 turns but 2 turns out seems better in my general experience. 3 turns out seems like a hell of allot though. Its better to tune with a vacuum gauge, at least initially, because that give you a better sense of your particular application rather than a general rule of thumb. In this case, plug in a vacuum gauge and start from whatever turns out gives you the highest rpm at idle...if the vacuum drops as you crank it up then you've gone to far. It depends on too many factors; displacement, head flow, carb jetting, etc. for the static 1 1/2 turn rule to apply.
