Motor mount question
How firmly does your FEs set in their place when you stomp the gas? Mine has always kinda felt a little loose when I get on it from a dead stop. I can open the hood and power brake it to see how much the engine moves but it doesn't really move too much. I am using the classic coat hanger for a throttle linkage right now so I feel eveything that goes on. It did this with my weak 360 and my new rebuild. I thought I had the problem licked when I pulled the 360 out and found the pedastals not bolted down tightly but I fixed all that and bought new motor mounts. I am going to check the mounts tightness in the morning but I am sure they are tight. The tranny mount is not new but according to the tranny guy is in good shape.

My 423 (390) flexed alot after the rebuild, course there was a lot more tork! It actually pushed the edge of the air cleaner up to the hood, put we had to raise the motor mounts a 1/2 inch for the oil pan to clear the crossmember. But we fabricated stainless steel arm about 6" long 1" thick and 3" width. on the passanger side behind the alt, there is a tapped hole in the block(at least on my 390 block) we bolted one end there and on the other end we drilled about 1 inch deep in the center with a 5/8 bit and tapped it, took a 2" peice of 1/2" angle iron, drilled a hole about center on one side, bolted it to the arm and then took a piece of old tire cut to the width and length of the angle iron and aproxied it to the iron(you can put steel washers behind the angle and arm to adjust the length between engine block and frame)Now when it torques the arm rests against the frame and no more than perhaps a 1/4 inch flex...
