I have a 1996 Ranger Ext Cab 4x4. It has a 4.0L w/5spd and Warn Manual hubs. I was driving down the road yesterday , when I noticed that the 4WD and the 4Low dash lights were blinking on and off every few minutes.
I stopped and tried to engage 4wd , thinking that maybe the transfercase shift motor switch was just stuck. It did'nt solve the prolem plus I found I no longer can get the transfercase to engage.
I replaced the shift motor on the transfercase about 9 mos ago.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
Thanks for any help!!
Take off the shift motor, and with the harness connector still attached have somone press the button inside the cab (key on) while you watch the shift motor. If it runs, then the problem is not the motor, but inside the TC itself. If the motor does not run with the button pushed then check for 12V at the Yellow (Y) wire in the harness connector, which is the motor feed.
