Ok, I may be losing my mind. I think I have a light burned out behind my RPM gauge but I can't remember if there was a light there or not. My speedo lights up the whole 360 degrees. My RPM gauge looks like the left 180 degrees is lghted and then the right side of the gauge is darker. I assume I am not going crazy and there are actually 2 bulbs behind the RPM gauge (left and right side). I just can't remember if that has always been darker on the one side of the gauge or if there is a light behind it.
If this is the case, any simple procedures for replacing this dash light? Anybody know what the part # is for the bulbs before I rip this apart and don't have a driveable vehicle to go pick up the bulb.
If it like my 97 PSD it will be painfull! The easy part is the buld is common and any part store should have them.
To change the buld you need to pull the instrument panel to get to the bulbs in the back. It took me about an hour to get it pulled. The bulbs are mounted on a circuit board in a plastic housing that comes off with a 1/4 turn.
To get the panel out there was a lot of interferance. the trim, and clear plastic covers. The big problem on my '97 was I had to disconnect the indicator for tranny (park, drive etc..), then had to aglin it afterwards. That was a little tricky.
I would suggest to replace all bulbs. If one is burned out because of age the others are not far behind.
I had the same problem, but from 1,000 rpms to 2,100 the light was out. Changed the bulb and 100 miles later it went out again. They are a Pain in the A** to change out.
Like the others said ist is a bit of a PITA. On your '05 the dash face just pulls right off. You need to set your parking brake tight and put the gearshift in 1, then you can pull the face toward you and reach behind it to disconnect about 10 or 12 wiring harnesses that are attached to it. Then you will have to maipulate the face around the steering column and the grab bar to get it out of you way. I believe you should be able to get to the PRNDL indicator cable by removing the lower dash cover. I think it is one 6 or 7mm bolt through a white plastic block that holds the cable in place on the column end. Then you just take the 7mm bolts holding the cluster out, pull the cluster out, disconnect the harnesses and you will see all the 1/4 twist bulb holders on the rear side.
