has anyone had success fixing a small pin hole in their gas tank?
I have tried the more expensive fiberglass and the cheaper putty stuff and didnt work. the leak is under the strap and there are 3 pin holes in a 1 inch diameter. i thought that i had a good enough prep. Is there anything else that i should try before putting in a new tank JB weld try preping better. the leak is right under one of the straps.
2-part epoxy putty from the plumbing section of Lowes/Home Depot. Have had it on mine for years. Just beware that if your tank really is starting to rust out, that this will only be a temporarty fix. Mine was a small hole from a metal fence post (don't ask).
I had a similar issue with my 1993 F-150 (dual tanks). I went ahead in getting a new tank because my front tank was rusting pretty bad. After quotes of about $210 for a steel replacement, I got a poly tank from mts (www.mtscompany.com) for $139. If you have to replace it, I highly recommend them.
BroncoGraveyard has them also. $100 for steel or $120 for plastic. Don't quote me on these prices though, just off the top of my head from when I need a tank.
Autozone also has them. I believe they are special order but, they can get them. Price was $97.99 or $119.99 for side tanks, depending on style, and $97.99 for the rear. Only available online but they offer free shipping on anything over $75. Steel btw.
