I have 2 things (which I believe are seperate issues) on my 2000 F-150 Lariat........
1st - I have a constant squeal, from I think the front drivers side. The squeal is there when braking/accelerating/turning, basically anytime the truck is moving it squeals. Any idea's where I should start to look first?
2nd - When I brake from anywhere about 50MPH I get a wobble up through the steering wheel........ I am guessing this is warped rotors, if it is, how easy are the rotors to replace? and are there any tricks to make the job easier?
the constant squeeking noise could just be your brake pads are low, and it is the metal pin rubbing. does the squeeking noise stop, make more or less noise when you press the brake?
fast is talking about the tie rod ends. other possibilities are that you have worn ball joints or idler arm bushing and that is where the slop is when you push on the brake pedal. you need to jack the front end a coupld inches off the ground and put stands UNDER the a-frams and let truck set on them. wiggle the tires in and out and look under neith at the idler bushing and the tie rods. -- put a 2 x 4 about 4 ft long under the edge of the tire and pry it up and down a couple inches. see if there is any slop in the ball joint (lower a-frame area). rotate the tire by hand and see where the squeek is. could be drive shaft universals, brake shoe or backer plate has a rock stuck in it.
Ok, I just got back from the Ford dealer (oil change) and they tell me that I need a new rear axle seal and a pinion seal........ could these things be causing the squeaking? Its on the left side, and so while it is the rear I could be wrong on the squeak coming from the front.
How expensive is it to change these seals myself? and how difficult a job is it? Are there any instructions on how to change these?
