Smile Front Boot on Front Driveshaft

I have managed to tear the front boot on the front driveshaft slip joint. Looks like some sort of external damage but nothing I can think of (so not dramatic). I may be posting in the wrong spot, but, this has been my "tribe" since I found FTE. Please redirect me if needed.
Questions:
1. Can I get just the boot somewhere?
2. It seems like a pretty straight forward drop the shaft, replace the boot, grease the splines while the shaft is down, re-install the shaft. Any issues that I should plan for?
3. Is this common? I have the standard FX skid plates, but have noted a lot of open space in between. Are people installing additional skid plates?

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is in the wrong place. I looked at the SD Forum, but, there's no place like home.

How can I remove this post? I have decided it is in the wrong forum. I have reposted this in the Super Duty forum, but now I can't make it go away here. I don't even see an edit button. Help? thanks RC

The edit button is only good for "X" number of minutes here. I would just leave it for a Mod to deal with or post a link to the SD forum thread. That way you'll have a better chance to get a response. You might call your dealer or NAPA and see if they have the boot. If not then maybe they can tell you where. Usually they'll say they're only available on the assy.

Thanks, thats what I was afraid of. I really don't want to buy a drive shaft or even just a slip joint to get a new boot. Is this a common tear up point? It looks like a stick or something bounced up an put a sharp edge to it while it was not even spinning. The boot is pushed toward the front and torn. thanks rc.
