I am new to the site, but I have learned a lot already. I have a Mercury Mountaineer (1997). The front blower does not work. The defroster works, the "foot" blower works, but the vents straight ahead do not. The speeds will change so there does not seem to be a problem with the blower itself. I checked fuses and they are fine. Any suggestions?
gator, this is how it works. there is an electric fan (blower) and it is running as you said. you have an electric mixing door that controls the amount of cold and hot air and mixes it to get the temperature you want. -------finally there are a couple damper duct doors inside the air plentum that direct the air to the defrost, the dash, or your feet. this is where your problem is at. the little cylinder is vacuum controlled, when you looose vacuum it goes to the defrost position. you need motor vacuum to get it to blow out the dash vents when you move the ****, look for broken or fallen off vacuum lines (small 1/4 inch hoses) on the back of the motor going toward the firewall infront of the glove box. you might also have a loose hose inside the dash on the back of the control ****.
