I am getting a trans rebuild and a guy said he can build it to handle 450rwhp all day long with a twin disk converter for $2800...is that to much ? Also is a twin disk ok or should i just go all out with the triple disk he said it woudl be like $600 more?
Honesly over build it now. I was in the same boat with my manuals clutch and I went with the cheaper one and ended up have to buy another one 2 years later.
ya but this guy was telling me that a twin disk would be enough but i dont know if a triple disk would be better. I dont want to have to touch it again and i might get in the county fair sled pull here and there so what would be better if it had 450 rwhp?
if you have the $ go with the triple disk, also make sure your getting one with the billet front cover. If its not billet and he's trying to sell you a converter for that kind of $ tell him to pound sand and find yourself a new trans guy.
Triple disc for sure. I would get the 450hp all day long printed on the warranty. I'm not saying he can't do it I'm just saying that it'll have to be a well built tranny. For the $3400 dollars he is quoting you for the triple disc tranny I would not hesitate for a minute to put in a BTS or Suncoast for a few hundred dollars more. Those trannies have been proven time after time.
Last time I heard a BTS was around $4700 out the door or shipped so its more than a few hundred dollars. The triple will be the way to go and as Luke said only if it has a billet front cover and not a stamped cover. Plenty of twin and triple disc converters out there that aren't billet covers and while they are an upgrade over stock they are all created equal.
