Rotted Door Frame
What's the best way to repair a rotted door frame? I have a sliding patio door that has a wooden frame that is partially rotted on the exterior. I've removed the rotted wood and I'm left with about a 2.5"w x 5"h x 1.25"thick area where the wood used to be. I'm thinking about using a piece of treated wood approximately the same size as what's missing then filling in the rest with exterior wood filler. What are your thoughts?

Is this the rough opening or the wood the door track is attached to? Or just the casing?

The rough opening is OK, it's what the lower door track is attached to.

It sounds like it is the lower casing (trim) Remove the entire piece and replace with new. You will spend more trying to repair it.

+1 That was my thought too, Casing can be bought giving you change for a $20.

Replacing the casing would be the best way to go but this is on a sliding patio door and it's on the section that is stationary.

Nope, just the bottom 6" of the casing on the stationary door side.

The JAMB (frame). If so, you've got the easy fix in post #1. Sounds like a sawzall, sharp chisel job to me. "Spackle that sucker".

Ya, do it right. Pop the doors out, remove the track, saw out the lower jamb, replace with new, put it back together.
