I'm beginning to wonder if the po saw me coming! Go to drive the truck (93 350 turbo) this morning and my e-brake light stayed on! Went around the block and noticed the brakes would seem to catch hard then be ok. Then the brake lights weren't coming on even though they were applied! So then I hear what sounds like a vacuum leak at the pedal when I press it. Lately I've been hearing a little "bump" when I press the pedal, it sounds like the brake booster! Fluid looks ok, didn't have time to check it out this morning, will look at it when I get home. Any ideas? Thanks ps. the e-brake light is off now!
Check your vacuum before you start replacing anything. There is supposed to be a low vacuum swich that trips the brake light to warn the driver of power boost failure.
The Ebrake switch is usually very crude, and its not an uncommon thing for some surface corrosion to get in and keep it from working. Its more common on autos, since it rarely gets used.
You might also check the vacuum check valve on the brake booster. It is made of plastic and I had mine split open on me going down the freeway and when I exited the freeway and tried to stop I had almost no brakes and had to pull of into the dirt to keep from hitting the car ahead of me. Prior to this I kept getting intermitant brake warning lights and noticed the brake peddle was soft. It was a cheap and easy fix but not an obvious one.

Good luck, Jim
Same here. When my belts flew off the second time, my cruise kicked out and I knew what to expect, took a good grip of the wheel, and stood on the pedal...
