I changed the spark plugs in my Ranger 16 valve 2.3 today the odometer shows 89000 miles I bought it with it showing 37000 miles on it. The strange thing was it didn't have motorcraft plugs in it. It had NGK PTR5F-11 It is a double platnium plug I went to NGK's web site and did search by vehicle and they show this plug as OEM.(Original Equipment Manufacturer, and/or Original Equipment Service Part) I put Motorcraft AGSF32-FEC back in it which is what Ford calls for. Could Ford have put the NGK's in from the Factory? It wasn't running bad Just getting ready for winter. I have a hard time with the idea of a plug lasting 100,000 miles. I did buy it used and it could have more miles on it then it shows but it's condition did pretty much match its mileage it uses no oil and gets 27-28 mpg.
The original plugs in my 03 Mazda B2300 were the NGK . I was surprised as I expected it to be a Motorcraft plug. Maybe the fact the 2.3 is primarily a mazda designed engine they went with the NGK.
The 2.3L is not a Mazda designed engine. It is a Ford engine and has been around since the late seventies/early eights. Used on several European models. The head has been redesigned a couple of times by Ford since then. Motorcraft does not make anything, they subcontract parts to whatever parts manufacturer can meet a quality spec for the least money. Normally on spark plugs, this would be Autolite, but I guess NGK beat them out on this one.

The 2003 2.3 16 valve Duratec is a Mazda design. It is mfg by Ford.
NGK's would probably fit the design parameters determined by Mazda.
The 2.3 engine used in earlier years is designated the 2.3 Lima. It is a SOHC, 8 valve engine.
