Swapping cloth for leather seats in 2001 Ranger. Old seats removed with difficulty turning two of the bolts, but totally unsuccessful with center seat belt bolts. Have tried long breaker bar and 650# air impact wrench and have broken three torx bits. Have entertained using heat but bolts are surrounded by plastic covers and carpet plus the driver side bolt is right over the fuel tank. These bolts must have extra-strength Loctite!!!! Changed seats in 1994 B2300 a few months ago with no difficulty at all. Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?
IDK about seat bolts, but any time we had bolts that were REALLY stuck on a vehicle this is what worked in the shop I worked in ages ago. Soak the bolt with penetrating lube (NOT WD40) wait a few and put the impact on it. If it is busting tools on the high setting, turn the air pressure down on the side of the gun and just let the internal "hammers" do the work. It may not feel like it is moving right away, but repeated soakings and bursts with the gun will usually work it free. Good luck.
Whew!! Finally got 'em. Thanks for the advice and support. Bought more expensive and better quality torx sockets-T50, 55, & 60. Then took the advice about oil then used high and low pressure on the air impact wrench. Got tired of that so I held a 24" breaker bar while my wife sat on the floor braced against the door pillar and pushed with both feet and all 130 lb. The bolt finally began to give. It was a struggle but we won.
BTW--I will be glad to loan my special 130 lb tool if anybody else has a similar problem-you pay the freight both ways. Must return the tool in same condition as received.
