I've got a 2WD 99 Explorer with the SOHC V6 and the towing package, and I just installed a Class III receiver hitch. I'm fixing to tow a 18' center-console Ranger bass boat with it, my guess is that it weighs about 3500#. No brakes. Anyone think my truck will have a problem pulling that?
Thanks for the reply! If I was going to tow this boat on a regular basis, I'd probably use a heavier vehicle. But, this is a one-time deal, so It'll be fine.
Lock out the overdrive. I tow my bass boat with the Mountaineer as it is a lot better fit for the boat. Dually only tows a travel trailer. You can't even see the empty trailer for backing with the dually when it comes time to load the boat.
I'll do a test run around the neighborhood to see how it handles before I hit the highway with it. Yeah, I figured on locking overdrive out. I think I'll go back to an F-150 the next time around. My old truck would have pulled and stopped this boat with no worries! I guess you don't realize how useful that old truck was until its long gone! Thanks for all the replies!
