Excessive tire noise

Rotated my tires today for the first time in about 20,000 miles. I know it stupid, but I kept putting it off. Anyway I followed the recommended x pattern rotation. The end result was excessive noise from the rear tires which were rotated from the front. Is this normal due to how long they were front tires? They are Mickey Thompson BAJA ATZ.

Sounds about right to me. Plus...when were the last time the tires were balanced? If 20k, then your tires need that too.
