I am curious how they handle this. I had a bug on mine this weekend and by the time I got it off, it left a spot about the size of a dime that was down to the black material. Luckily the truck is carbon so it doesn't really show, but it did **** me off. Less than a year old and the paint is that fragile, especially on an area prone to abuse like the front end. And if anyone has any advice as to how to approach the dealer with this, please pass it on. Had I known this earlier, I would have probably taken it with the bug still there, but I had to wash it this weekend, she was filthy. Perhaps the best approach would just take it and tell them the paint has started to come off. Surely they wouldn't argue that it was a chip when it is that big and there is no other damage to the bumper cover (nicks, scratches and so forth).
When I brought mine in to the dealer to look at...the only place with the bug damage was on the two lower peices of the bumper cover. The hood and fenders were fine...so something is wrong with the paint or curing process of the paint on the two lower peices. If the paint was the problem...the hood would have had the same damage...but it didn't. The lower parts are probably painted somewhere else before they are put on.
I got my truck back and it is better but not perfect. Looks like the top part of the bumper cover (where it joins the lower part and makes the v-groove) has a crack in it and the job has several places that are very rough...like the fog light holes. I think I will call the service manager and tell him that it needs to be redone. He did tell me yesterday that the paint was covered for 3/36. And if it were to happen again he would get new parts for it and then paint them. But I would like to see it in writing.
