Question Errant electrical problem

OK.... seems my X is haunted. My wife woke me at 2 am last night.... apparently the X was trying to start itself. I grab my keys and run outside, barefoot and in my robe. Sure enough, the starter is turning. I grab the toolbox out of the back and disconnect the negative side of the battery.

I went out this morning and reconnected the battery and all seemed fine. Lights, locks, etc are all working, truck starts and runs fine. About 10 minutes after shutting down, the X tries to start itself again. I was hoping it was a bad starter solenoid, so I pulled the ignition wire from the solenoid and it stopped. So, it's definitely in the wiring or computers. Here are some of the other symptoms that I found:

1) Opening the drivers door rings the bell as if the keys were in the ignition, but they are not.
2) No other doors result in the same behavior.
3) Reconnect the ignition wire to the solenoid and the radio comes on. Hit the radio power and it goes off. Opening the passenger door also shuts it off.
4) Remote door locks do not work, but hitting the lock button on the door works just fine.
5) VSS is intermittent.

Anyone have any ideas what might be happening? It sure seems to think that the key is in the ignition when it is not.

sounds like the truck always thinks that the key is in the ignition. If I had to guess, I'd say the key swith thing (i cant remember what its called) is bad and is probably shorting out. I'm assuming you don't have an aftermarket remote start or anthing like that, right?

I bet if you replace that, your symptoms will disappear. Don't quote me on that, and wait for someone else to give a second opinion just to be sure

Sorry to hear that though... bet that sucks for now :/ haha, maybe replace the battery terminal clamping screw with a wing nut

Good luck!

Here is the deal. You have a leak on your windshield and you have water getting down into the starter relay in the dash. They usually leak in the upper two corners. peel back the insulation and check.
