Oil Pump

Ok, So yet another new problem, Well old in a sense but anyways....

When I 1st got the truck, there was a ticking sound coming from the engine, brought it in, got all the oil maintence done and wat not. Guy said if I have the same problem, it could be that the oil pump i shot.

Well the sound is back, pretty intense. Plus, I get like this lawm mower/ screeching soung at about 3000 rpms, an virtually no acceleration compared to about a week ago.

Just got my oil serviced today (only after 1000 miles) and ticking is still their, plus my oil gauge dropps. So, I'm looking into oil pumps, and I was just wondering if I should replace it. If I should, where is it located? and is it hard to do by myself?

Thanks for any help!

Question

Have you had to add any coolant or is the tank low?

Exclamation

Before replacing the pump you need to have a UOA done to determine if there is coolant in your oil! You might have a leaking timing cover gasket or lower intake gaskets or both, which will cause the coolant in your oil to take out the bearings!

Now, exacly what should I do? I am really limited budget wise, and hate to see mechanics just tack on the bills...

Look in the yellow pages under "Lubricants" and call someone who does UOA= Used Oil Analysis.I used my local Caterpillar dealer. They can tell what is going on inside your engine from this test.Or,you can install a mechanical guage to see if you need an oil pump.
If it were mine i'de do the the UOA first then go from there.

The oil pump is integrated into the timing cover on the V6. You must pull the pan and timing cover to change it I believe.
