Proportioning Valve Location

Just curious to see where is the best place to mount the proportioning valve when doing the drum to disk swap.

I don't have means to do any major fabrication so the easier the better but trying not to make it look like crap under the hood.

Thanks!

Have not found aftermarket proportion valve bracket. With the upgrade on 65 removed the bracket off 76 donor truck. Believe there are couple variations. Mine mounts to the steering box and another bracket is mounted to that bracket then the proportion valve. Suggest browse salvage yard, any year w/ power steering until 76 and perhaps later.

Ford couldn't seem to make up their minds where they wanted them either. I've seen them on the steering box, under the cab as noted above, and on the backside of the front crossmember where I mounted mine. I considered using the under the cab install but felt it was too difficult to bend the new brake lines and install them there. On the backside of the crossmember it is well protected and easier to install. For mounting I was able to use one of the existing holes for the 'old' brake lines, so didn't even have to drill anything. The steering box mount isn't a bad idea either but I'm not sure that would work with a column shift(?).

I put the stearing column from a 76 donor and it was mounted to the side of the stearing box. dont recall doing any mods to it. the only thing i remember about that was the changeover size of the brakelines. a reducer will be needed to hook up the original to the newer one. Dutch

Yeah, those reducers are becoming hard to find here.

You wouldn't happen to know the sizes of those reducers would you. I know they need to size down to a 3/16 but have yet to find the right size to screw into the back part of the valve.

Thanks

I took a look at how i had converted mine cause it's been about two years and i couldn't remember how i did it. i used both the lines that came with the donor portioning valve and went to the hardware store in their brss section and bout a Tee that had the 3/8 on two sides and the 3/16 on one. since i had changed out the steering column, break petal assembly, and booster all i had to do was connect to the existing lines down by the frame. the portioning valve was bolted right on top of the stearing box. hope that helps some.
