1999 F450 2WD 7.3 PSD and it launched a glow plug. Hit the valve cover hard enough to crack it and it was the steel version. My question is, how common is this? I wasn't pulling hard but did have my 5th wheel on behind. It took out the wiring under the valve cover and melted the connector that goes through the valve cover. Dealer fixed it but had to use a used connector and splice the wires outside the valve cover. It smoked a little and felt and sounded like a valve problem, losing one cylinder and some clatter that stopped. I'll be interested to see from this response if I should expect another launch and maybe put a NASA sticker on the side.

LOL, that's pretty funny, glad you have a sense of humor about it.
I have not heard of that before. Sounds like it was loose and the engine compression and vibration took care of the rest. Hope the mechanic took the time to check the torque on the others.
Ive heard of spark plugs in the Triton engines being launched out, but damn a glow plug on a PSD, they are right thats very uncommon ive never heard it. Do you know if the valve covers have been off before, and who (if anyone) changed the glow plugs out? They only require 10 lb-ft of torque on them, so its not much holding them tight, but they shouldn't work loose. Make sure the tech chased the hole with a tap, and make sure that the plug didn't strip any threads in the hole.
Thats funny.......Yes I would go with the NASA sticker. I havn't heard of this happening before. Sounds like your engine might have been assembeled on friday just prior to beer-thirty.
can someone tell me if the selinoid for the glow plugs is suppose to make a loud clicking noise when you turn on the key and the wait light goes out it turns over quite a bit before it starts
I did ask if the other glow plugs were checked for torqe and was told they were. I also asked about locktight but was told it would only "burn out" and it shouldn't be a problem. I was also asked if I knew who worked on it because the old glow plug was an after market and not Ford. I have no clue ( man that's haed to admit ), I have had it only for two years but love the thing. It's got the Highway Products RV puller bed and it gets noticed. Thanks for all the responses. I'm feeling better now. Well guess what, it's 6 beer 30!!!

I homebrewed with some help on here a regulated return fuel sys., but one of my fittings were leaking. So I went to fix it, and i decided i didnt like how it was setup, with a really short hose that was flexed to hell, and a really long hose that had to be wrapped around the GPR to make it work. So im redoing the front part where it goes to the regulator, and waiting for more fittings from summit, they sent me the wrong one last time so now its the waiting game again.
I usally work on my truck during beer-thirty. Last night was included where I got the idea to not have the hoses so long and the one so streched so i took them off, and im investigating a new spot for the regulator.
