460vs 390?
wondering how a 70's 460 truck motor compares to a stock 390 2v
from 1970? which one can handle more pedal to the metal
driving? I know 390's can move more than one guage
when the foot drops but how bad is a 460 on gas?what
about accelaration characteristics? sorry for all
the questions but these are interesting trucks, with GUTS!
and they just keep goin and goin, and goin.
Fe power
If you choose a FE, you will eventually become a FE expert because no one else around you is and that’s what it takes to own one. Parts are more expensive and harder to come by.
If you choose a 385 series, any joe-blow shop should be able to fix or overhaul it. There are tons of aftermarket parts for it and cheaper too.

that alone tells ya something.. But the FE Series is a very good engine! Durable as the 460 and builds GOBS of torque. I feel that depending on how much power your looking for the 390 (I'd personally make it a 410) should be fine.
Also if you stick with the 390 FE series, you won't have to change your driveline or anything like that...
I have owned a 360 in my 1970 2wd, and I currently own a 1984 Bronco with a nice torquey 460 in it... The low-end on the 460 is put-your-back-in-your-seat powerful!
I plan on sticking with an FE engine, a 410, for when I restore my 1970 F-100
my $0.02
