I was wondering what kind of suggestions people can come up with to make my 1975 Ford F150 Supercab 360's performance much better, i have heard such things as convert it in to a 390 which im not very much interested int, one question is, is the 360 a Big Block? also would my Edelbrock Q-Jet 750 CFM Carb with Manual Choke (4 Barrell) make a difference from the current stock 2 barrel Q-Jet? I got a deal on the exhaust and im probably gonna make the exhuast a 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 inch Turboflow Exhaust, But i really dont know much else id like the truck to have more pickup/accelleration but i dont have a high budget any suggestions would be great!
A good set of headers with 2.5" max exhaust size would be a good start. Add a Performer intake with the perfomer cam and you should see a noticeable increase in power. I would keep the carb size down in the 600-650cfm range, a 750 is a little bit big for a stock or even a mildly modified 360.
The FE sereis is considered a big block motor. Although usually it is refered to as the FE. The BIG BLOCK is usually the 385 series. 429, 460, etc. The Fe is 330, 332, 352, 360, 390, 410, 427, & 428. Those are the most common FE engines. There can be some other displacements also that were origninal. Like the 406. it is basically a 428 bore and a 390 or 427 stroke. You could very easily take the 360 in your truck and make a 390 out of it. All it requires is a 390 crank, rods, and pistons. It is understandable that you wouldn't want to do the extra work for that. I would suggest a performer cam, intake and a 600 cfm carb. If you want to keep it in fairly stock form. I also wouldn't run more that the 2 1/2" exhaust if you are planning on towing anything ever. More free flowing exhaust will bring power up but only on the High end. Low end Power suffers under the high flow exhaust.
If you are looking for something to just wake it up. I would really suggest the Edelbrock Performer series. Intake, carb, and cam. Then a set of headers and the 2 1/2" exhaust. That will make you go WOW. I know it does a lot of people.
