um...... so after driving around to almost every name in parts store (knechts, napa, autozone, baxter, and schucks) i found that while napa and baxter still sells the OBD I code reader, no one has them to loan because "every one is switching to new cars". MY ***. so basicaly... CEL has been on on my mom's car for about two years, it idols like ****, runs great when its being driven, just not when its idols. want to get codes pulled, but don't realy see the benifit to buying one... right now... so... my question is this: does any one in the portland area have one that we could like meet up or something so i can pull the codes? its for a 95 4.0l xlt aero. if not its cool. just asking... thanks!!
ok so i found out that the person that i talked to at schucks didn't much about cars... so when i went back later for some oil i enquired to a worker named jaxx and he went back and grabed the code reader. hooked it up, most tests cleared everything, but the one thing that poped up with a red light was:
Cylinder 6 eec-IV (something to that effect, will post exact later). went back inside, jaxx said that that probly meant that its missing... which means to atleast to me, that its bad. so we're taking to coopers to have them re-do the tune up job they didn't do right the first time.
Only 1996 & 1997 Aerostars with OBD II 'NEED' a code reader (I know,I bought a code reader years ago for my 1994 Aero also, but never used it. Evidently you dont need it)
The OBD-I reader has to plug into the same test connectors that you can use to start the EEC self test. Usually you can just read the codes from the CEL once you start the test. Otherwise, you can connect a light bulb to one of the pins on the multi-pin connector (ST-O). I don't remember which pin it was, but I did post this a long time ago. The other side of the bulb goes to ground.
