Are all body shops the same?

Just a little venting here. I can't believe how difficult it is to get someone to actually do any work. My truck has been in two body shops in a year and it still isn't finished! I went to the shop yesterday and started ripping into the guy for dragging his feet. I didn't want to go that route but I was left with no choice. Are they all the same? The first shop I took it to had it in the yard for four months. Every week I'd go and hear all about how they were getting caught up and how they would be doing my truck soon. On my last visit they just said they had too much work and didn't want to do the truck. So I moved it to the new guy who has had it several months. It has been sanded in a few places and all the trim has been removed and that's it.

Man I'd like to fire the guy, but he knows he's got me bound and he is taking advantage. One day I'd like to show you all what I have done to my truck, if it doesn't rust away first!

What type of work are you having done. I worked in a paint shop for a brief periord of time. From what I saw the gravy high dollar insurance jobs get preference over individual jobs where they might not be making as much $$..... So if your getting a total repaint where extensive body work is required they are probably not looking forward to it. They would rather be working on the easy fender bender....

You might try to find someone who does this kind of work on the side. Alot of the time thoes type people thrive on these side jobs.

anyways good luck

I've already put down money and I'm afraid it would be a total hassel to get it back. We'll see. He said he would have it done this month.

any shop scares the heck out-a-me, every one of them is about the money. none of them care about your car or truck and more than halve of them hate their jobs (thats a bad combo). it is so rare to get good work for a shop. those without mech. skills don't know any better and are at the shops mercy. thats how the shops survive. auto shop should be a required course in school.

I was thinking that an independent owner shop would be best which is why I chose this one. I can't do the steel work or the dent fixing. I could paint one but it's been at least 20 years since I held a paint sprayer. I don't know anything about upholstery work. So I am at the mercy of a shop. Too bad they don't realize customers will come back or recommend them to someone for a good job. As it is I wouldn't tell a friend about them or if he asked I would tell him to look elsewhere. Oh well, at least I don't have a new truck payment.

amen ta that brother. i have never personally wrecked a car or truck in my life (knock wood), but i did recently get a little ranger from my sister that she had wrecked. it did some front end damage, so i got together a hood, fender, valance, grille and went to work on the unibody with a good size hammer and various other long blunt objects and pushed it out to where the body panels would line up (some w/ a couple of simms). then a little spray paint and it's good to go, with the exception of the paint you couldn't tell it had been wrecked. any amount of learning i have to do is worth it to avoid the bs of the shops. axk had a good idea, a bodyman lookin for side work, if your not in a learning frame of mind or you want a show room type finish.
