i tried the same thing with a piece of card board and it did not ignite it but it got real close..if it didn't get too hot for me to hold i'm sure i could of held it there long enough for it to ignite...
Has anyone stuck a meat thermometer to get a Temp reading. I can honestly say that I cannot tell when my truck goes into Regen mode or I would have tried this.
Other than the potential risk of starting a fire, I wonder what the long term effects of these high temperature regen cycles will do to the underside of the truck.
A client of mine just did some remodel work at a shop where they train techs to work on the cummins (I think he said cummins anyway) engines. They installed a fan system to remove exhaust from the room when the engines are running. He specifically ordered a fan that could handle some heat but Broan sent him a fan with plastic fins. Well even 30 feet up at the ceiling the temp was hot enough to melt the plastic fins right onto the rotor and seize the fan up. He said the tech told him they are at about 1500F at the exhaust tip.
That's all second hand info so take it with a grain of salt, but I don't think a meat thermometer is going to help you much there.
Hello all;
You do not want a meat thermometer, you want a candy thermometer. I use one for frying, its good to around 550 or 600 degrees. (What can I say I like to cook. Actually I prefer the eating part, but you know how that goes.) The other option would buying a new toy and going contactless infared temp guns.
