Engine rebuilding help

I need some serious help.

I live in edmonton alberta canada. and well I have been driving my truck more and more due to work and over the last week my engine has seen a loss in both oil pressure and power(not a signifigant loss but you can tell theres a slight loss.) it has 167000kms on a 92 5.0 engine. a nasty rear main seal leak. I took ownership of the vehicle at the 165000km mark. and fuel consumption went through the roof. in 60 kilometers a 1/3 of a tank.

my question is how much would it cost me to rebuild this engine. I have no mechanical ability with engine internals or torque wrenches etc.

and would it be more viable to find a 351w and rebuild that and drop it in my engine. obviously I want more horse buy doing this but at the same time I do not want to break the bank. I can still drive the truck (like a granny) but I am worried.

what am I looking at for price of rebuilding this?

I just finished that job on my 1988 F250. It had 184,000 on the 351. Oil pressure was non existant under 1500 rpms and the main seal leak in my case was a faulty oil pan gasket.

For me the remanufacted route was cheeper than a local machine shop price and the engine comes right to your door. $1400 was the price. Gasket set included and a 100,000/3 year warranty to boot.

The job will entail more expense than that though. You will probably want to replace everything in the rebuild that is old. Distributor and module, water pump, clutch etc. I would have the injectors cleaned at this point too. I'd figure $2,500 to be safe.

Be warned that it's a mother of a job and not for the faint of heart. And you will need help at various points such as pulling and putting back the engine.

First things first, is this just from reading your oil psi gauge? Is it making noticeable clattering noises or anything like that?
