1990 F150 4x4 Lariat, 302, got lots of rain last night.........went out to go eat bfast with the son, started right up like normal, let it idle for a minute or so, and then drove off. I got to the end of the street, rolling to a stop and it shut off.
I am thinking this something it has never done.......after much engine turning and no starting, I pop the hood, to see if anything obvious is going on, tell the son to try it and it starts right up........shut the hood, it dies, open the hood and it starts right up, and so on and so forth. I drive to the grill and back with the safety latch holding my hood down and all is fine. I can push the hood down and all is fine, but if I latch it, all dies. It will do it EVERY time I try it. I have looked for obvious pinched wires or anything that the hood may be in contact with, I do not see anything. I obviouslly can not continue to ride around with the hood 1/2 open...........has anyone got any ideas, or experienced anything like this? I have only had this truck for about 5 months and this is totally not normal............thanks
Wow, that's really odd. I don't think there's anything that should affect the way the truck runs. Hmm. You'vle got me stumped. Hopefully someone will pipe up.
The only thing that I can think of that would of anyway remotely be affected by the hood would be the hood light... you know that lights up the engine bay when the hod is open... I would try taking out the dome fuse and see if that helps. Its worth a stab in the dark.
If that don't work...keep tellin people you meet the story n ask them if they know...until you get an answer....pull the hood off..it'll stay cool better......I don't rightly know but maybe a circuit is getting completed once it locks completely...doubt it but.......never know.Good Luck.
