I am almost done with my 79 F150 and was wondering if I should put QQ plates. I will only take it out once in awhile but I heard your only supposed to take it to and from shows with QQ plates.
if you mean antique plates you will need to check
with your state tag office as each state may be diff.
both fla. and ga. the antique plates are the same as any other
drive any where, any time
I just today got a letter from DMV Va. on antique tags stating:
Effective July 1, 2007, the law was amended to clarify the limited use of vehicles that bear antique plates. Antique license plates include vintage license with permanent registration. A vehicle with antique plates cannot be used for general transportation purposes, including, but not limited to, driving to and from employement. The new law requires evidence that you own, lease or have regular use of another passenger vehicle or motorcycle for general transportation purposes. In addition, the law requires certification that the antique motor vehicle or trailer meets the safety equipment requirements for the model year in which it was manufactured and is capable of being safely operated on the highways of Virginia. This is a self-certification that you provide based on your knowledge of the vehicle's safety equipment and safe operation.
Then theres a form to fill out.
I thank my girl friend for typing that it would have taken me an hour
Sam, I am in NJ and have 2 vechiles with QQ plates and I have never been stoped but I don't use them for going to or from work. I beleive it states in the registration form that it must be used for historial purposes but that is vague. Maintance is a good form of use , the truck must be used ocasionally to keep it charged and the gas from going stale but legally you can't stop for groceries or stuff like that. Tom
Dear God.. with restrictions like that, I wouldn't have had a vehicle to use the past month while my daily driver was down for repairs/getting winterized.
in jersey, the "Q" tags limit use basically to not be used as a daily driver. it is the insurance company's that are the real sticklers.
i have "Q" tags on the 65 falcon, 66 7 litre, and the 79 F250.
the cars have classic insurance, the truck has regular insurance. i used the falcon as a daily driver for 4 years, and never had any problems, but it had regular insurance on it then.
the classic insurance stipulates that
A:no daily driver or backup car use.
B:must be garage kept.
C:no more than 2500 miles per year without company approval beforehand.
there are a few other rules, but i can't think of them rite now.
I have antique and classic auto insurance from JC Taylor in Pa. and it states on the application (these vehicles will be used mainly in exhibitions , club activities, parades and other functions of public interest and will not be used primarily for the transportation of passengers or goods) 158.00 full coverage with 5000 on 1 and 10,000 on the other.
