well i have just gotten my Flowmaster 40 Series muffler installed. i used the factory pipe and they just welded on another section of pipe so it comes out like it did from the factory. how can i make this more loud without alot of money? maybe turning the tip down??? how would that look if i turned the tip down? ANY and ALL ideas are welcome. Thanks!
A large tip can make it louder, something like a big wazoo from hedman. I had single 3 inch, to a 3 in 3 out flowtech after burner muffler, and a 4 inch x 24 long tip. It was on my 02 4.8 chevy reg cab sbx, it sounded mean for a 4.8. Droned on the highway, but I didnt care.
I got the same exhaust. Like Steve said give it about a month. I will break in and get louder and it will be nicer sounding. My volant intake made mine a whole lot louder and made it sound better also.

Remove the newly installed muffler;that will make it louder!
Flowmasters don't have any internal sound deadening material...they use directional sheet metal baffles to do the work...so there is no break in period.
I have a Flowmaster cat back on my 04 FX4, and it sounds the same as it did from day one. It's been on my truck for 3 years.
What would you do with the Flowmaster you just bought? lol. BTW, it wouldnt hurt if you go under and look at the muffler to make sure its a real Flowmaster. I got a flowmaster installed months ago and it didnt sound the way I wanted. Turns out they installed a fake one. So I called flowmaster and they put that shop under investigation. The muffler should have a serial number, check my gallery for pictures of the fake flowmaster.
Sure you can have both, but it won't help anything, except make things quieter. About the only thing you can do is to remove the muffler completely. The Flowmaster 40 is probably the loudest street legal muffler.
I put dual flowmaster 40s on my truck with 3inch tips and 2.25 piping it got louder over time and got a lot deep throaty and mean too hard to get them loud they sound good though
Its an easy solution...just have it dumped (turned down) right after the muffler. No tail pipe = more sound. Mine are loud as heck on my '73 and theyre dumped...and as soon as my 04 is outta warranty...I'll do it to that too.
