Check engine light
My check engine light does not come on when the key is turned on prior to ignition. I have a '97 F150 4x4 with a 4.6. As part of our states emmision control test the light mus activate when you turn the key on.
Does anyone know where the problem may be? I have checked the bulb and it appears to be good.

Replace the bulb anyway. It's likely bad.
If it's not the bulb, then its either a faulty PCM or you have an open circuit between the PCM and the bulb or between the bulb and its power source in the cluster.

also if you have your dash tore apart...i would recommend changing all of the other bulbs in the instrument cluster*the ones that light your gauges/speedo...becuase chances are you will get it all back together and one of them will burn out on you.
