4.2L 302 Swap

Can anyone tell me how hard it would be to swap my 4.2L with a 302. I've got a '99 F150 2wd.

You'll have to swap the transmission and fab your own mounts, etc. Basically none of your dash cluster will work anymore. You'll have to figure out how to get the brakes working correctly without ABS..... It's a big big job since everything is computer controlled on your truck. And if you have emissions testing, forget about it...

You'd be better off finding a wrecked donor truck from about the same year as yours with a 5.4 and swapping in the drive train and computer system. That's a bolt in deal.

Trans bell pattern is the same. But if it's an automatic, that will need the computer to shift it. Brakes work normally without ABS, ABS only regulates the line pressure when traction is lost. Otherwise the brakes work normally without the ABS.

I think he means the 4.2L V-6 since it is just a stroked 3.8L as those had the SBF pattern.

the 3.8/4.2 motors aren't mod motors, they're pushrod V6's based on the Windsor V8

I dont wanna split hairs here, but the ford 90* V6 was never based on the windsor. The only thing that is the same is the bellhousing pattern, were not talking chevy 350/4.3 here.

According to what I've read they were based on the Windsor, only loosely apparently. The Heads are somewhat based both on the Cleveland and Windsor designs. The valves are inline, but slightly canted fore and aft.

No. They have different bellhousings...

The 4.2 is not a Triton, its just a stroked 3.8... which has the same bellhousing pattern as a windsor.
