I think it is leaking, acts like it is starving for fuel at high rpm and is now looking for fuel at first start of the day. How do I test the pump as it has fairly new injectors, lines, and fuel filter? Glow plugs working ok for now. Thanks.
I'm looking at doing my own engine rebuild here soon. Waiting on parts at this time but I would like to know how to test the IP to see if it really needs replacement as well. If the origional IP is good, I don't see putting $400 into a new one....
hi im kinda new on here but i have a question my 7.3 is idleing rough on cold starts and smoking really bad after u shut it off it has to sit for a couple of hours cause it wont start all it does it crank can that be an injector pump prob or a pin hole in the return line its got a couple of mechanics stumped just wondering

Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.
Air leaks in the return lines usually show up as start and run for a few seconds, then stall and hard to start again.
Start OK when cold and not start when hot is usually the IP.
Rough running after a cold start can be a couple bad glow plugs, bad injectors, or a bad IP.
Does the engine run and idle OK after it warms up?
Does it start and run OK when you start it cold if you plug it in a couple hours before you start it?
