I have one of the CPP hood tilt kits on my 55. I just installed a 56 grill, and voila, the hood now hits the grill.. I didn't see anything in the instructions about this problem, no rubber pads for that lower hood lip (I did curl them back a little with my metal hammer)..
Do you mean the hood rests against the grill when "0pen"? MidFifty and I suppose others sell a hood prop to hold the hood open without allowing it to touch the grill. I recall someone on here drilled a hole in the rotating horizontal bar in the open position and then added a removeable pin to hold it there. Someone will probably be along shortly with more info.
Sam,
Have the same truck, tilt hood kit and problem. Was thinking and that could be dangerous, maybe adding a bifold locking keeper can't think of a better way to describe it. One of those that only folds one way and locks into place when fully open. Probably could find something like that at Home Depot or Lowes. My keeper that came with it has to be pushed into the hole and is real easy to go passed it when opening the hood and touch the grill. Getting ready to take my hood off and flatten the radiator valance anyway will probably do something with that at the same time. Let me know if you solve the problem first. Joe
I have the same setup as you except my grill is painted. The hood has touched the grill several times by accident. No scratchs. Just be mindful when you open it to install the prop rod or the pin. After you have opened the hood a few dozen times you will develope the habit of reaching for the prop rod as you are lifting the hood. You hold the rod up and as the receiver hole nears the end of the rod, you push it in. Cables seem like overkill to me, but it's you truck. They will not replace a rod/pin, only work with it. Good luck, Jag
